Grid Lines

Privacy Policy

LAST UPDATED 27 OCTOBER 2026

This policy explains what information the Grid Lines app ("the game") collects, why, and what you can do about it. Grid Lines is made by Brandon Anderson, an independent developer in Washington State, USA, who publishes games under the name Upshot Game Labs ("we", "us"). Upshot Game Labs is not a company; Brandon is responsible for the game and for this policy. If anything here is unclear, email support@upshotgamelabs.com and a real human will answer.

The short version

1. Information saved on your device

Grid Lines saves your level progress, stars, hint count, chosen theme, sound settings and similar preferences on your device. This information stays on your device and is not sent to us. Deleting the app deletes it.

2. Gameplay analytics (only with your consent)

When you first open the game, it asks whether you're happy to share anonymous gameplay statistics. If you say yes, the game uses Unity Analytics, a service of Unity Technologies, to send events such as:

Along with these events, Unity collects technical information about your device: a random identifier created for this installation, device model, operating system version, language, and an approximate country or region worked out from your IP address. We don't see your name, contacts, photos or precise location, and we can't tell who you are from this data.

We use it only to understand how the game is played: which levels are too hard, whether hints are useful, where the game might be broken. You can turn analytics off at any time in the game's Settings, and the game will stop sending it. If you say no, nothing is sent.

3. Advertising

Grid Lines is free and supported by ads. You can choose to watch a video ad for extra hints, and an occasional ad appears between levels after you've played a good while. Ads are delivered by LevelPlay, Unity's ad mediation service (formerly ironSource), which picks an ad from Unity Ads and other ad networks that bid to show one.

To show and measure ads and prevent fraud, these services receive information from your device such as your IP address, device model, operating system, language, approximate location, and how you interact with the ads (for example, whether an ad was shown, finished or tapped).

Apple's tracking question. Before ads start, iOS asks whether Grid Lines may track your activity across other companies' apps and websites. If you allow it, ad networks may use your device's advertising identifier (IDFA) to show ads more relevant to you. If you don't, they can't use it, and you'll still get ads, just less personalized ones. The game, its levels and its hints work exactly the same either way. You can change your answer any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.

Family-friendly ads. We block ad categories such as gambling, alcohol and dating, and limit ads by content rating, so the ads should be suitable for everyone who might pick up the game.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it.

Selling and sharing. We don't sell your personal information for money. Some US state laws call it "sharing" when an ad network uses your advertising identifier to personalize ads. That only happens if you allow tracking in Apple's prompt, and you can turn it off in iOS Settings at any time.

5. Children

Grid Lines is a general-audience puzzle game and isn't directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children. If you're a parent and believe your child's information has been collected, email us and we'll help remove it.

6. How long information is kept

Information on your device stays until you delete the app. Unity and the ad networks keep the information they receive according to their own policies. If you email us, we keep the conversation only as long as we need it to help you.

7. Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live (for example in the EU, the UK or some US states), you may have the right to ask for access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information, and to object to how it's used. Because we hold almost nothing that identifies you, the simplest route is usually the choices above. You can also email us, and we'll help, including asking Unity to delete analytics data linked to your installation. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.

Where EU or UK law applies, we rely on your consent for analytics and personalized ads, and on our legitimate interest in running and protecting a free, ad-supported game for everything else.

8. Emailing us

If you contact us, we receive your email address and whatever you write. We use it only to reply to you, and we never add you to a mailing list or share it.

9. Information moving between countries

Unity and the ad networks may process information in the United States and other countries, which may have different data protection laws from yours. They use the safeguards described in their own policies.

10. Changes to this policy

If the game changes how it handles data, for example by adding a purchase to remove ads, we'll update this page and the date at the top. Purchases would be handled entirely by Apple. We never see your payment details.
